INTERNAL MARTIAL ARTS FOR HEALTH AND RELAXATION
WHAT IS TAI CHI AND QIGONG
The full name for Tai Chi is ‘Tai Chi Chuan’ which means ‘Supreme Ultimate Fist’. Rather than referring
to combat fighting methods our Tai Chi is an internal martial art, using internal energy, life force or Chi
to develop health and relaxation.
It is a whole body, whole mind experience of gentle physical stretching and relaxing in which each position flows into the next so that the body is in constant motion.
Qigong means to ‘cultivate energy’ - ‘qi’ or ‘chi’ means ‘energy’ and ‘gong’ means ‘skill’.
Chi flows through the Meridians which are an invisible network of pathways and channels along which the chi flows.
WHY IS IT GOOD FOR YOU
Tai Chi helps develop, store and use Chi (energy) as the movements are chosen to assist the circulatory system, to boost the immune systems, to increase energy, and to develop balance, flexibility and coordination leading to a balance of mind, body, emotions, and spirit.
It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to strengthen and circulate life energy while utilising the theories of movement, body positioning and breathing.
Chinese archaeologists and historians have found references to Qigong-like techniques at least five thousand years old.
